One of our most popular treatments is Invisalign, and to help our patients better understand this unique approach to straightening teeth, we've pulled together a few of the most common questions about Invisalign along with their answers.

What is Invisalign?Orthodontist-Bruce-Goldstein

Simply put, Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment alternative to braces that uses clear, removable plastic aligners to straighten the teeth instead of metal wires and brackets.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Invisalign comes with a number of advantages compared to traditional braces, including:

  • Virtually Invisible: Invisalign aligners are almost invisible when worn, so no one has to know you're straightening your teeth and children won't have to worry about braces for school photos or other important milestones.

  • No Dietary Restrictions: Unlike braces, the aligners are taken out to eat and drink – so kids can still enjoy all their favorite foods during treatment.

  • Easy Oral Hygiene: With Invisalign, there's no need to worry about floss threaders or difficulty brushing.

  • More Comfort: Invisalign aligners are smooth and lay flat against the teeth, making for a more comfortable treatment process.

How long does treatment take?

Treatment time varies greatly from patient to patient, so this will depend on your unique orthodontic situation. In general, though, treatment lasts anywhere between 6 and 24 months.

How much does it cost?

Invisalign costs a similar amount to braces, but the exact cost varies greatly between patients. We'll help you get a better understanding of your cost estimate during your initial appointment.

Can kids get Invisalign?

Absolutely! So long as all the teeth including second molars have grown in, anyone is eligible for Invisalign – in fact, Invisalign Teen is custom-tailored to adolescent patients.

How much do I have to wear the aligners?

Aligners need to be worn at least 22 hours a day, moving only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. Each pair of aligners is worn for about two weeks before moving on to the next.GettyImages-853577296

Does it hurt?

No! While some discomfort is normal after switching to a new set of aligners, this fades quickly and Invisalign doesn't generally "hurt."

Will I notice an effect on my speech?

As with all orthodontic appliances, most patients go through an "adjustment period" where they notice a slight impact on speech. This will fade quickly, though, and the more you talk with aligners in, the faster your mouth will adapt.
