Quality Dental & Orthodontic Care for Children & Adults

At Affiliated Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics (APDO), we are passionate about helping our patients develop beautiful, healthy smiles that'll last them the rest of their lives. Our doctors and expert team of highly trained dental and orthodontic specialists work hard to design treatment plans that perfectly suit each patient's unique needs, and we have the skills and the knowledge to make every visit to our office a pleasant experience for all involved. But while the treatments we perform in office are critical to your child's smile, they're only half the story - and the care you and your child give their teeth at home is just as important to their dental health.

Brushing is the cornerstone of any dental hygiene regimen, but kids aren't always the best at it, so we highly recommend helping your child brush until they turn 8. Brushing is critical for removing bits of food, debris, and bacteria that can accumulate in the mouth, and can help fight tooth decay, cavities, and gingivitis. We recommend dry brushing for 1 minute, which lets you see into your child's mouth and gives a vital first pass at removing debris. Next, brush with fluoridated toothpaste for 1 minute. For children between age 1 and 2, use only a small smear of toothpaste, and for children over 2, use a pea sized amount. You can use either a manual or electric toothbrush, specifically the Gum®Crayola spin brush.

Brushing is important, but it can't fight cavities alone, and flossing is its critical counterpart. You'll need to help with your child's flossing as early as ages 3-4 - as soon as the spaces between teeth are too small to clean with a toothbrush. For patients in braces and kids over the age of 6 that have a difficult time flossing, there's a   Waterpik®, made especially for children.
